Geneva to Zurich with SBB"s BEST Tilting Train in First Class
Hallo!
Since I've been riding trains, I was never a huge fan of the tilting concept, it's usually not worth it for the passenger and tend to break down quite a lot, giving the operators some troubles, we've seen this in the UK, Finland, Greece, France, Germany etc... but the ICN is the best proof that tilting trains can be GOOD!
Enjoy, and don't forget to like/leave a comment to help the channel :-)

    I haven't been on it but I've heard that it's very loud, that the noise insulation is bad. And also that some parts of the train make noise while it's in motion, like the walls just repeatedly making a banging noise and whatnot. Basically a really poor build quality. Not surprised they cancelled the order and I'd assume this train won't be used by Regio Jet anymore once the testing period is over.

    Positive point with first class in the middle: It does not matter witch way the train is arranged. SBB also does that with RABe 511, RABe 512 and the new Flirt EVO. But bad side: Always walking traffic trough the first class with passengers searching more second class space...

    Trains from Switzerland to the USA. It’s bad that America can’t make high-quality trains for passengers. But even beautiful trains from Europe are disfigured by terrible train horns! Why use those terrible train whistles from the 19th century? Trains should be quiet and fast, and all people should know that the railway is a dangerous place.

    "HSL" is a bit of a misnomer though as the highest speed is only 200 km/h. The Swiss considered it necessary to construct a whole new line with in-cab signalling for 200 km/h, which Britain had been doing since the 1970s on conventional tracks with conventional signalling 😊

    I don't think the incidence of bad tilting trains is greater than for trains in general. Too many successful examples to mention in Sweden, Germany, Italy, Slovenia, Spain, UK (the Alstom Pendlino which uses the same SIG electric tilt as the ICN), Australia and of course, Japan, where hundreds of tilting trains run every day.

    Ummmmmm... No. Brightline West will not be actual HSR. Under 10% of that line will be at speeds over 150 mph. The entire right of way is single-tracked with only a few passing tracks next to the stations. The trains will indeed be Siemens Pioneer trains capable of 320 km/h operations, but they won't be able to reach those speeds anywhere on the Brightline West line. Brightline is good at marketing, but the actual product here has little to do with high speed rail.

Simple math says that the trip will AVERAGE a little over 100 MPH. This includes wait time at the in between stations as well as acceleration and deceleration from them, plus slower speeds in hilly and curvy areas. 94% of the total system is in the middle of the 15 freeway.

    • @Neville60001
      @Neville60001 День тому

      @devroombagchus7460, public transit _does_ exist in the USA and Canada, it's just not as fast as you Europeans want it to be (a reminder; both nations are the size of a continent, with states and provinces the size of a country, which means a lot of distance for a fast train to cover [even with HSR, a train trip between New York and Los Angeles-or Toronto & Vancouver is still ten hours long and four days long, respectively.) Now if the USA and Canada could build long distance continental maglev rail, getting to one distant area from another would be amazing, but it's going to take a lot just to convince North Americans that standard steel rail HSR is viable or possible, so what's being done now with this Brightline West project, and the CAHSR (California High Speed Rail) project is good, and what already exists (Acela) is a great accomplishment _despite_ it not being as truly fast as most HSR trains in Europe and Asia (and most American jurisdictions have public rail transit like subway lines, light rail, and commuter rail, no matter how not as fast it is [with Caltrain in Northern California being electrified.]) Snarkiness isn't really needed, and in the meantime, you and other Europeans need to learn that, when visiting North America, that you need to take regional trips (visit one region at a time on one trip, then another on another trip), that you will have to drive to some places in either country, and also maybe learn basic geography of the North American continent as well as what the distances are between places in North America so that you're not disappointed about there being no fast electric rail travel everywhere in North America as yet.

    I live in Vermont and they’ve improved the tracks a lot but the frequency of trains is not enough. We should have multiple trains per day back and forth between Burlington and NYC. This will go bankrupt if the rountrip ticket price is $400. You can build it but they will not use it. You could drive this route in your car for less than $50, so why waste an extra $350 on a train? You can fly there for about $150.

      $400 is a price tag just being thrown around the Internet, but I will help you guys get the right info. The $400 price tag will, according to some people at BL, be the maximum price they will charge for a r/t (so the highest level of service with a last-minute booking). I would guess that most tickets would be around $100-$120, with some tickets being more or less. Most people don't like to drive and are willing to pay money for a service to bring you places, this is why people pay for plane tickets.

      It's a private company, they will set the price to whatever maximizes profits, which means they will definitely be solvent; railways are a natural monopoly anyways. It's just that the 'optimal profit' price might not match what we'd consider a good price. Just like no one actually wants to pay 2k for rent, and yet...
